The Fledge & Co. Fumé Blanc 2015

Chirpy.

From vineyards in the Outeniqua mountains, this wine from Leon Coetzee and Boplaas winemaker Margaux Nel was fermented using three different yeasts and matured for seven in old French oak.

The nose is wonderfully complex with a floral note before lime, green apple, honeydew melon and white pepper. The palate is well balanced, Sauvignon’s usual exuberant fruit nicely tempered by the time in barrel, the finish gently savoury. Most satisfying to drink. Cellar door price: R125 a bottle.

#WinemagRating: 90/100.

I agree Christian, I also scored it 90. What a great effort by Leon! The nose is pure tropical fruit. My only criticism (if one could ever criticize a 90 point wine) is that I would have liked a teeny bit more natural acidity in the wine. But Leon ascribes to the natural wine making philosophy, so one can but commend the effort, and at the price it is rediculous value for money.
