The Foundry Roussanne 2010

Shaping up nicely.

Roussanne’s chief attributes are supposedly its aroma of herbs and wild flowers as well as its ability to age gracefully. Last night the 2010 vintage from The Foundry, own label of Meerlust winemaker Chris Williams, and the nose wasn’t that striking but in general it seemed to have come a long way since it was rated 3½ Stars in Platter’s 2012.

The predominant impression was of yellow peach but also notes of marmalade plus some hard-to-describe but pleasing oxidative character. Thick textured but not too much so – in fact, remarkably refreshing overall thanks to a super line of acidity. Serious and satisfying.

Score: 91/100.
