The Grande Provence Amophora 2015

By , 21 July 2016

Karl Lambour has left Grande Provence in Franschhoek to become GM at Stellenbosch property Tokara on a high note, two excellent new wines made under his watch released yesterday.

Grande Provence Wooded Sauvignon Blanc 2015
Price: R150
Grapes from Maastricht in Durbanville. Matured for 11 months in 500-litre French oak barrels, 20% new. The main impression on the nose is one of blackcurrant but there are also notes of lime, white peach and fresh herbs. The palate shows pure fruit and fresh acidity before a very savoury, almost saline finish. An extremely elegant offering.

#WinemagRating: 93/100.

The Grande Provence Amophora 2015
Price: R600
WO Franschhoek. 80% Chenin Blanc from a vineyard planted in 1981, 15% Muscat D’Alexandrie and 5% pressed Viognier skins for added texture. Vinified in two 400-litre terracotta amphora imported from Manetti Gusmano & Figli in Florence, Italy. Top notes of flowers and dried herbs before lemon, mandarin and white peach plus a hint of spice. A wine of delicacy and refinement – remarkably light and fresh given an alcohol of 14.02% and very long on the finish.
