Part of Eben Sadie’s Ou Wingerdreeks (Old Vine Series), this wine is from a field blend of Chenin Blanc, Muscat, Palomino Semillon and Semillon Gris, this Swartland vineyard was planted in stages from 1900 to 1928.
This vintage shows white and yellow peach, some floral perfume, spice, talcum powder and a hint of yeasty complexity. It’s medium bodied with gentle acidity and a pithy finish. Subtle and elusive, it’s one of those bottles you wish would never end. Approximate retail price: R250 a bottle.
Winemag rating: 92/100.
