The RisCura White Hot Wine Awards: Call for submissions

By , 29 July 2013

Logo - smallSauvignon Blanc-Semillon blends are a fairly new phenomenon in the South African context but are already causing great excitement. In conjunction with RisCura, a global financial services provider, I am pleased to launch the White Hot Wine Awards, which will bring further attention to the category.

A tasting is proposed to establish the top three examples in the country, and producers are invited to submit a wine. Conditions of participation are: 1) wines submitted must be current release or soon to be released (no museum class entries) and 2) must be specifically labelled as blends (no wines labelled as “Sauvignon Blanc” but containing a fraction of Semillon to be accepted). There is no entry fee.

Wines will be tasted blind by a three-person panel consisting of me as chairman as well as Roland Peens of Wine Cellar, a Cape Town firm which brokers and cellars fine wine and James Pietersen, beverage manager for local restaurants Balducci’s and Belthazar.

Findings will appear on my blog which attracts around 3 000 unique visitors a month. The winning wines will be announced at an awards lunch hosted by RisCura and catered by top chef Franck Dangereux on Sunday, 1 September 2013.

Those wishing to participate should send two bottles to: 7 Clarendon Road, Mowbray by Wednesday 7 August.
