Thistle & Weed Duwweltjie Chenin Blanc 2016

Sticks like crazy.

After working harvests around the world, Stephanie Wiid and Etienne Terblanche have established the Thistle & Weed label locally, their first release being Duwweltjie Chenin Blanc 2016.

Grapes from a Muldersvlei vineyard over 65 years old, winemaking involved spontaneous fermentation in third-fill barrels before six months of maturation.

The result is a wonderfully subtle and intricate wine. The nose shows citrus, peach and pineapple as well as a hint of earthiness and some yeasty complexity. The palate is light but flavourful – great fruit definition, the acidity particularly lively, the finish long and pithy. Wine Cellar price: R150 a bottle.

#WinemagRating: 93/100.
