Topical pic – the wines served at CE’s big Four-Oh b’day party

The Big Four-Oh party wines.

Yours truly turned 40 yesterday and here’s why he feels like 50 today: Klein Optenhorst Méthode Cap Classique Pinot Noir 2009, Jordan Barrel Fermented Chenin Blanc 2009 and Kloof Street Swartland Rouge 2009 by Mullineux Family Wines.

The bubbly from a 0.25ha vineyard on my parents-in-law’s Wellington property and made by Graham Beck’s Pieter Ferreira; the Chenin Blanc from the Stellenbosch property of Gary and Kathy Jordan; and the red a blend of 72% Syrah, 12% Mourvèdre, 8% Cinsaut, 4% Carignan and 2% Grenache sourced from across the Swartland by Chris and Andrea Mullineux.

No tasting notes except to to say that the wines were intended to keep my wine-geek friends fascinated all afternoon but not leave my other friends entirely mystified. I think I just might have succeeded.
