Suckers for punishment – Le Roux, Steyn, De Fleuriot and Hopkins.

This year’s Bordeaux-style red blend tasting to be reported on in the September issue of WINE magazine  has attracted 115 submissions compared to 123 in 2009.

The panel is myself, Ginette de Fleuriot of Wineworx, Charles Hopkins, winemaker at De Grendell in Durbanville, Bernard Le Roux, winemaker at Noble Hill in Paarl and restarateur Jonathan Steyn.

Last year’s tasting produced two wines rated 5 Stars (namely Diemersdal Private Collection 2006 and Warwick Trilogy 2005) as well as three wines rated 4½ Stars and six 4 Stars. Will pickings be as rich in 2009?
