Old gold.

Happy birthday to Zoë, our eldest daughter who turned three yesterday. To celebrate the occasion mum, dad and Nana opened a bottle of Veuve Clicquot Brut Vintage Reserve 1996. Light gold in colour with a fine but not particularly energetic mousse. It had plenty of developed character – yeasty, bread-like notes, honey, nuts – on nose and palate but also some red apple and bright acidity. At its peak for me but still a classy drop. Score: 16.5/20.
