Vilafonté Series M 2013

Spick and span.

Wines don’t come more luxuriously styled than those from Vilafonté, the Paarl property which sees Mike Ratcliffe, who also oversees Warwick in partnership with two eminent US wine industry personalities, namely Phil Freese and Zelma Long.

The Series M set for release is as sleek and opulent as ever. A blend of 45% Malbec, 34% Merlot and 21% Cabernet Sauvignon, it was matured for 20 months in French oak, 17% new.

Red, blue and black fruit plus notes of vanilla, chocolate, earth and oak spice.  It really is immaculately well made – luscious on entry, soft on the finish but not glib or ingratiating. If you like a fruitier style of red wine with less aggressive tannins, then you can’t go wrong. Due for release on 1 May.

#WinemagRating: 92/100.
