De Grendel Op die Berg Syrah 2019

By , 30 October 2020

New to the De Grendel range is Op Die Berg Syrah 2019, grapes from a young Ceres Plateau vineyard some 40km from its existing plantings of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in that district.

10% whole-bunch fermented and matured for 12 months in older oak, the wine shows subtle aromatics of black berries, lavender and white pepper while the palate is pure and supple with fresh acidity and fine tannins. It’s already almost impossible to resist but should be even better a year down the line. Price: TBC (release set for early 2021).

CE’s rating: 93/100.
