Eagles’ Nest Shiraz 2014
By Christian Eedes, 24 May 2017
While the 2013 vintage of Shiraz from Constantia property Eagles’ Nest was particularly striking, the currently available 2014 seems more understated.
Matured for 20 months in French oak, a third of which was new, the wine displays aromas of red fruit, white pepper, vanilla and a hint of reduction. It’s medium bodied with pure fruit, fresh acidity and fine tannins. Polished in the best sense, it’s not as severe or angular as some of the more cutting edge examples out there. Wine Cellar price: R285 a bottle.
Editor’s rating: 92/100.
