Yardstick Chardonnay 2013

Tasteful.

Tasteful.

Yardstick is the collaboration between Mulderbosch winemaker Adam Mason and chef Peter Tempelhoff, the series consisting of a Chardonnay and a Pinot Noir being finalists in the recent Wine Label Design Awards. Packaging is unfussy and contemporary and the same could be said of the wines.

Tasting notes and scores as follows:

Yardstick Chardonnay 2013
Price: R150
Grapes mainly from Elgin but also Ceres, Piekenierskloof and Stellenbosch. Fermented and matured for 10 months in mainly old oak. Marmalade, some yeasty complexity and a hint of reduction. Rich and full on the palate, tangy acidity providing verve.Typical “New World” Chardonnay.

Score: 88/100.

Yardstick Pinot Noir 2013
Price: R150
Grapes from three sites in Elgin and one in Ceres. Small batch of carbonic maceration. Red berries and some floral fragrance on the nose. Concentrated fruit, fresh acidity and soft tannins. Not particularly intricate but entirely likeable.

Score: 87/100.
