Zorgvliet Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Zorgvliet Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

No mucking around.

Bernard Le Roux joined Zorgvliet in December 2013 after stints at first Vilafonté and then Noble Hill and is quietly going about uplifting the reputation of this Banhoek property after it meandered for a while – the 2015 vintage of the Sauvignon Blanc-Semillon blend known as Simoné rated 90 on the 100-point quality scale in the category tasting last year while the 2015 Bordeaux-style red known as Richelle rated 91 earlier this year.

The Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 is also impressive and great quality relative to price at R130 a bottle. Matured for 18 months in French oak, 35% new, the wine shows plenty of cassis plus just a little leafiness on the nose. The palate is super-concentrated with fresh acidity and fine tannins. It’s a very good modern-day rendition of the variety – powerful but balanced.

Editor’s rating: 91/100.

    Hi Christian,

If you recently took part in the Stellenbosch en primeur tasting, which Cabs caught your eye, in comparison to JP’s ratings?

    Thank you.

Hi Kevin R, If you mean the recent Cab celebration in Johannesburg, I unfortunately didn’t make it. All for en primeur tastings but not sure we’re going to have critics flying in from all over the world a la Bordeaux.
