Blaauwklippen Barouche 2010
By Melanie, 3 September 2011
The BBC. No, not the British Broadcasting Corporation, not the Bombay Bicycle Club and not the Billionaire Boys’ Club. Instead the Blaauwklippen Blending Competition. If ever a reminder was needed of the inherent fun to be had from wine appreciation, then this is it.
Held for the 28th time this year, it attracted entries from 69 different wine clubs, including one from Switzerland. The winning 2010 blend was put together by a Gauteng outfit known as Three Sheets to the Wind and consists of 75% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot, 10% Zinfandel and 5% Malbec. It’s imminently drinkable being medium bodied with ripe red fruit, fresh acidity and soft tannins. R130 per magnum from the farm.
