Five days in Paternoster and plenty of fabulous wine. Particularly memorable was the Boekehoutskloof Semillon 2006 enjoyed at local restaurant Oep ve Koep run by journalist-turned-chef Kobus van der Merwe and family. Van der Merwe keeps his ingredients as local as possible and we had the wine with dish called “Mosselbank at Low Tide” – maasbanker bokkom, sea lettuce. soutslaai, pear, almond. celery and ginger. The Semillon showed superbly – lots of concentrated lime and green apple with the first hint of that waxiness which Sem shows after some time in bottle. Score: 18/20.
