Constantia Nectar 2009 is a natural sweet wine from Muscat de Frontignan grown on the property Huis in Bos, Teddy Hall responsible for vinification. Only two vintages were ever produced – the 2009 and 2010 – grapes subsequently purchased by Klein Constantia for Vin de Constance.
The wine comes in individually kiln-fired ceramic bottles and the Anthony Lane designed label features the Australian Lyrebird, capable of mimicking almost any sound known to man – Huis in Bos owner is former sound engineer Peter Rawbone-Viljoen (brother of Anthony, owner of Oak Valley in Elgin) and the label is intended to reflect his interest in all things audio.
The 2009 shows notes of marmalade, honey, a hint of mint plus some leesy complexity. It comes across rather forcefully, being thick textured but also possessing driving acidity. Quirky but still enjoyable. Price upon request.
Score: 89/100.
