Dow’s 20 Year Old Aged Tawny Port

Stealth bomber.

Stealth bomber.

Or the one that caused all the trouble. After dinner on Tuesday night showcasing the best of Elim, Strandveld winemaker and host Conrad Vlok produced a bottle of Dow’s 20 Year Old Aged Tawny Port.  Classic candied orange peel and nuts on the nose which followed through to the palate. Most striking about this wine, however, was how light bodied and almost ephemeral it was, which made it all too easy to drink. It would’ve made the perfect end to the evening but then somebody suggested an ice-cold glass of Strandveld Sauvignon Blanc 2010, among the winners in Wine magazine’s Top 10 competition last year…
