Eenzaamheid Chenin Blanc 2012 vs 2013

Eenzaamheid Chenin Blanc 2012 vs 2013
Country style.

Agter Paarl property Eenzaamheid supplies grapes to the producers of various big brands but Janno Briers-Louw, son of the owners Christo and Karina, also makes some own-label wine, of which the Chenin Blanc is the stand-out.

Last night the 2012 and 2013 side by side. Tasting notes and scores as follows:

Eenzaamheid Chenin Blanc 2012
Deep yellow in colour and quite advanced on the nose and palate. Dried peach and apricot but also a pronounced nuttiness plus some waxiness and even mushroom. Rich and full with coated acidity and a savoury finish. Very characterful but starting to fade so drink up.

#WinemagRating: 89/100.

Eenzaamheid Chenin Blanc 2013
Approximate retail price: R115
Lemon and white peach, a little earthiness and some lanolin. Good depth of fruit, fresh acidity and a savoury finish. Perhaps short of detail but plenty of rustic charm.

#WinemagRating: 91/100.
