Groote Post Salt of the Earth 2015

Gritty.

Darling producer Groote Post have released a new red blend from the 2015 vintage under the label Salt of the Earth, comprising of 66% Shiraz and 34% Cinsault, the latter component from 42-year-old dryland bushvines. Grapes were co-fermented before maturation lasting 14 months in 500-litre barrels, 60% new.

The nose shows dark fruit, spice and a particular earthiness. The palate is rich and dense although not devoid of freshness making for a flavourful drop. Price: R240 a bottle.

Editor’s rating: 90/100.
