Hartenberg The Stork Shiraz 2015

By , 9 August 2019

Big bird.

Matured for 18 months in French oak, of which 90% was new, The Stork Shiraz 2015 from Hartenberg in Stellenbosch is not what you might call “hipster”.

On the nose, some smoky reduction to go with attractive oak-derived notes plus black and blue fruit as well as pepper. The palate, meanwhile, is sweet, rich and smooth textured (alcohol: 14.29%). The extraordinary fruit density will impress some while the lack of refreshment value will vex others. Wine Cellar price: R750 a bottle.

Editor’s rating: 91/100.
