Judging for the Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show 2011 is now complete, it having attracted 1 062 entries from 225 producers (compared to 1 014 wines from 234 producers in 2010).

Entry breakdown of the main classes was as follows: Sauvignon Blanc 141; Shiraz 132; Cabernet Sauvignon 106; other red blends 101; Bordeaux-style red blends 98; Chardonnay 88; white blends 57; Merlot 56; Pinotage 55; Chenin Blanc 48; and Museum Class 62 (substantially up on last year’s 39).

It can be revealed that 25 gold medals have been awarded (compared to 32 in 2010), 116 silver (89 in 2010) and 427 bronze (329 in 2010). It emerged during the Judges’ Session yesterday that no gold medal had been awarded in the Chenin Blanc class which is sure to provoke debate.
