Carsten Migliarina is a former sommelier who learnt winemaking on the job, his own label founded in 2002. New releases to catch the eye as follows:
Migliarina Grey Matters Pinot Gris 2017
From Stellenbosch grapes, 50% was fermented in old oak. Some floral perfume, apple, white peach, melon and spice on the nose. The palate is pleasantly broad with nicely integrated acidity, the finish long and savoury (alcohol: 13.5%). A subtle wine which engages more and more with each sip. Wine Cellar price: R145 a bottle.

Migliarina Grenache 2017
From Wellington grapes. Maturation lasted seven months in neutral oak. A charming nose with top notes of flowers and herbs before red fruit while the palate is medium bodied and flavourful with bright acidity and fine tannins (alcohol: 13.5%). Wine Cellar price: R160 a bottle.
