Mont Rochelle Miko White 2015
By Christian Eedes, 16 February 2017
Mont Rochelle Hotel & Vineyard, one of the properties in UK businessman Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Limited Edition portfolio, has Dustin Osborne in charge of viticulture and winemaking. The flagship wines appear under the Miko label in honour of the late Miko Rwayitare, Rwandan-born telecommunications businessman and former owner of Mont Rochelle, and the White 2015 has just been released at R300 a bottle.
A blend of 89% Chardonnay, 10% Sauvignon and 1% Semillon, the wine matured for 12 months in French oak, 90% new. Lime and lemon on the nose while the palate displays concentrated fruit, fresh acidity and well integrated it oak – it’s a precise wine, currently very clean and correct but should gain more complexity with two or three years in bottle.
#WinemagRating: 89/100.
