Mulderbosch Selected Vineyards Cabernet Franc 2015

Of a place.

The soon-to-be released Selected Vineyards Cabernet Franc 2015 is the maiden vintage of this variety from Stellenbosch cellar Mulderbosch – this wine set to form part of the Single Vineyard range thereby joining an existing trio of wines from Chenin Blanc.

Grapes from a Stellenbosch Kloof site, the wine was matured for 20 months in French oak, initially in second-fill barrels and then the last few months in new oak. The nose shows dark fruit, earth and spice plus just a touch of herbasceousness. The palate is surprisingly rich and thick-textured given a relatively modest alcohol of 13.5%.  Not short of freshness, the finish is super-dry and the overall impression is of a wine that is polished in the best sense.

Editor’s rating: 92/100.
