Op Sy Moer 2016

Neil Ellis Wines have traditionally been strictly according to the rules and hence about as reliable a wine investment as you can get but that all changes with the Op Sy Moer 2016 by Warren Ellis, a blend of 37% Palomino 33% Grenache Blanc and 30% Chenin Blanc from Piekenierskloof made with 15% whole bunch fermentation, some skin contact, no added sulphur and extended time on the lees (hence the name).
A wonderful nose of citrus, peach and apple with notes of potpourri, ginger and spice in the background. The palate meanwhile is intensely flavoured with zesty acidity and a slight earthiness to the finish. Unfined and unfiltered, it throws quite a lot of sediment. Very characterful but not for those uninitiated in “natural wine”. Available to wine club members at R250 a bottle.
