Paul Roos Die Skoolhoof 2015
76% Chenin Blanc, 24% Chardonnay. Spontaneous fermentation in 300-litre barrels, 18% new. A subtle nose of citrus and peach, ginger and spice plus some yeasty complexity. Rich and broad with moderate acidity. Characterful but perhaps a bit short of zest.
Editor’s rating: 89/100.
Paul Roos Die Filantroop 2015
63% Shiraz, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 11% Pinotage. Spontaneous fermentation in 600-litre barrels, 20% new. Some floral fragrance before plums, cherries and cassis plus vanilla and spice on the nose. Medium bodied yet intensely flavoured – good fruit concentration, tangy acidity and relatively smooth tannins, everything coming together for good.
Editor’s rating: 92/100.
