Almost but not exactly.

Almost but not exactly.

Some 900 producers and over 7 400 wines, brandies and “sherries” appear in Platter’s 2014.

There were 194 wines nominated for 5 Stars of which 73 were endorsed, up from 62 in the previous edition.A further seven brandies were rated 5 Stars.

I proposed 11 wines of which four made the cut. These were as follows:

Five Stars
Ernie Els Proprietor’s Cabernet Sauvignon 2011
Ken Forrester Three Halves 2009
Spioenkop ‘1900’ Pinotage 2012
Rall White 2012

Highly recommended (Four and a Half Stars)
Avondale Cyclus 2011
De Grendel Koetshuis Sauvignon Blanc 2013
Ernie Els CWG Auction Reserve 2011
Kanonkop Paul Sauer 2010
Kanonkop Pinotage 2011
Ken Forrester The FMC 2011
Ken Forrester The Gypsy 2010

Hi Albrecht, I’m aware of the Beeslaar wines but haven’t tasted them. Anybody else got an opinion on them?

Hi Christian. I was quite surprised to see no 5 Stars for the Kanonkop wines – PS & Pinotage. Glad to see it did get nominated at least.
Have you tasted Abrie’s “Beeslaar” wine yet? Thoughts?
    Thanks
