According to Platter’s, Nietgegund is owned by former lawyer Jan Dreyer, the Pro Amico being the wine from this Stellenbosch property. Marius Malan made the 2010 as a consultant although Ronell Wiid, who also does work for Bartinney, has subsequently taken over.
In the case of the 2010, this is a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Shiraz, matured for 12 months, 30% new and it’s a really pleasing if not super-complex drink. The nose shows red fruit, some appealing herbal character as well as the first signs of development which only adds interest. The palate is medium bodied with nice freshness and fine tannins – very more-ish relative to all those big and bold reds out there. Price: R137 a bottle.
