Radford Dale The Renaissance of Chenin Blanc 2015

No nonsense.

The Renaissance of Chenin Blanc 2015 under the Radford Dale label of The Winery of Good Hope is nothing if not dramatic. From a single block of unirrigated, bush vine on the slopes of the Helderberg, juice underwent spontaneous fermentation and maturation lasted nine months in French oak, mainly 500-litre but also 228-litre barrels, none new.

The nose is very expressive with a top note of honeysuckle before pear, white peach, apricot and a little spice. The palate is rich and forceful, amazingly so given a relatively modest alcohol of 12.86%. Plenty of concentrated fruit, electric acidity and a pithy finish. Years away from drinking at its best. Price: R295 a bottle.

#WinemagRating: 93/100.
