Shannon Capall Bán 2016

By , 22 November 2019

Giddy up.

The Capall Bán 2016 from Shannon Vineyards in Elgin is a blend of 70% Semillon and 30% Sauvignon Blanc, matured for nine months in a combination of new and used oak. On the nose, citrus, peach, black currant, sea breeze and some waxy complexity. The palate has lovely fruit weight and texture offset by racy acidity – layers of flavour, the finish long and savoury.

It would surely have been one of the top performers in the recent Sauv-Sem Blend/Wooded Sauvignon Blanc Report but for the fact that the producer could not meet the minimum stock requirement of 100 x 6 bottles. Small quantities are still available at R295 a bottle.

CE’s rating: 93/100.
