Stark-Condé The Field Blend 2014

Foxy.

What to do with a 2ha block with 11 different soil types? Stark- Condé in Stellenbosch decided to plant a mix of white grape varieties which could be picked, pressed and fermented together to make up one wine.

The current-release 2014 is a blend of 46% Roussanne, 30% Chenin Blanc, 12% Viognier and 12% Verdelho, 50% undergoing spontaneous fermentation in a mix of barrels and the balance fermented in tank.

The aromatics are lovely – floral perfume, pear, white peach and citrus while the palate shows excellent fruit purity, a great line of acidity and a pithy finish. There are plenty of good white blends out there but this one of the most vivid and poised in a while. Price: R145 a bottle.

#WinemagRating: 93/100.
