Garagiste winemaker Konrad Raubenheimer (Twitter handle @Konsumes) dropped off a bottle of his Stormborn Duisendpoot Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 for review and entirely charming it proved to be.
Grapes come from a 34-year-old block “practically across the road from the Devon Valley Hotel” and production amounted to a single second-fill barrel (“the best I could get my hands on”), the wine was matured for 12 months.
A textbook nose of cassis, violets, dried herbs and cigar box while the palate combines richness and freshness. There’s super fruit concentration and the tannins are quite soft and loosely knit which makes the wine readily accessible. A real bargain at R70 a bottle. To order, email email@example.com
