The Fledge and Co. Vagabond 2016

Like a rolling stone.

Leon Coetzee and Boplaas winemaker Margaux Nel made a pretty smart white blend in the form of Vagabond 2015, this wine rating 91 on the 100-point quality scale in the 2016 Cape White Blend Report (see here).

The soon-to-be-released 2016 is a blend of 39% Chardonnay, 24% Viognier, 18.5% Grenache Blanc 11.5% Steen and 7% Verdelho. The nose has a herbal top note before notes of lime, lemon, peach and apple plus a touch of earthiness while the palate is pleasantly lean and austere (alc is 12.64%). More tightly wound than the 2015, it should reward bottle maturation.

Editor’s rating: 90/100.
