The Grand Provence Amphora 2016

Winsome.

Whether by design or happy accident, the maiden vintage 2015 of The Grand Provence Amphora (80% Chenin Blanc, 15% Muscat D’Alexandrie and 5% pressed Viognier skins) fermented in clay amphorae turned out wonderfully (see here).

The follow-up 2016 sees the portion Muscat greatly reduced to just 1% and the Viognier entirely dispensed with. Lovely aromatics of blossom, fresh herbs, lime and white peach precede a palate which is light, clean and fresh (alcohol: 12.5%) with just a bit of grip on the finish. Delicate and subtle, a real pleasure to drink. Price: R660 a bottle.

Editor’s rating: 94/100.
