The Thirst collection of wines from the The Winery of Good Hope is terrific fun. Featuring minimal intervention in the cellar and all possessing alcohols of 11.5%, they have an approximate retail price of R120 a bottle.

Quencher.

Thirst Clairette Blanche Chenin Blanc Verdelho 2015
A floral top note before notes of citrus, peach, cut apple and spice on the nose. Some reduction, too, but this is easy to forgive. Good fruit concentration and bright acidity before a gently savoury finish.

Winemag rating: 89/100.

Thirst Gamay Noir 2015
Strawberry, pomegranate and some fynbos on the nose. Surprisingly intensely flavoured on the palate given the low alcohol with a slight earthiness and punchy acidity.

Winemag rating: 88/100.

Thirst Cinsault 2015
Raspberry, strawberry, dried herbs and spice. Light bodied with good freshness – pretty but perhaps a bit slight.

Winemag rating: 87/100.

Love these 2015’s! They provide real joy and are so smashable. I would rate the Cinsault a bit higher. I also think it should be cooled down (and quite a bit, during our summer) before drinking.
