This year’s Shiraz Challenge has attracted 186 entries down from 247 in 2009. Are we finally seeing some market consolidation?

The panel  is myself, Carrie Adams of retailer Norman Goodfellows, Miguel Chan, group sommelier for Souther Sun hotels, James Pietersen, beverage manager for Balducci’s and Belthazar restaurants at the V&A Waterfront and Christine Rudman, CWM.

The first round of judging is taking place today and tomorrow, with the wines considered to have particular distinction going through to a final round on Thursday.

    Hi Christian
This year’s Shiraz Challenge is sponsored by Global Trader, so it will be referred to as the Global Trader Shiraz Challenge.

With judging complete, I can reveal that there were two wines rated 4.5 Stars and 15 rated 4. Stars. Full results will be published in the August issue of WINE magazine on sale from Monday 19 July.
