Christophe Durand arrived from France in 1995, establishing himself as an importer of barrels, but soon started making his own wine.
He buys grapes from across the Cape, his Chenin Blanc coming from a Swartland vineyard planted in 1974.
The 2012 shows yellow peach and a definite leesy note. It’s rich and thick textured despite a moderate alcohol by volume of 13% and the finish is long and savoury. Old fashioned but rewarding and good value at around a R120 a bottle.
