Cape Rock Carignan 2015

Light and breezy.

Single-variety Carignan is definitely going down the path less trodden but Cape Rock winemaker Gavin Brand has come up with something more than passable in the form of 2015 vintage. WO Olifants River, juice underwent spontaneous fermentation, 20% whole bunch and maturation lasted 12 months in old barrels.

It shows red fruit, a little stalkiness plus a hint of reduction on the nose. The palate is light-bodied (12% abv) and very fresh with a spicy finish. Another new-wave red that’s just so easy to drink. Wine Cellar price: R140 a bottle.

#WinemagRating: 87/100.
