Carinus Family Vineyards Polkadraai Chenin Blanc 2018

By , 26 February 2020

Covert operation.

The Polkadraai Chenin Blanc 2018 from Carinus Family Vineyards as made by Chris Alheit has appeared on the market without any fanfare. With top growers and a top winemaker behind it, the wine is not surprisingly pretty damn good. A wonderfully complex nose with notes of honeysuckle, white and yellow fruit and, if you look hard enough, a little reduction that only adds interest. The palate has a weightless intensity about it – extraordinary fruit concentration to go with punchy acidity before a pithy, slightly bitter finish. Layered and long, this is super stuff. Approximate retail price: R265 a bottle.

CE’s rating: 95/100.
