Patatsfontein Doortjie Colombar 2020

By , 9 April 2021

Colombar has always featured in Patatsblanc, the subordinate white blend to the Steen from Montagu property Patatsfontein, these wines as made by Reenen Borman, but now gets top billing as a single-variety wine by the name of Doortjie.

The 2020 shows subtle aromatics of pear, peach and perhaps a touch of earthiness while the palate has lovely fruit expression, moderate acidity and a gently savoury finish. It’s balanced and understated and just jolly good drinking –  with Borman joining the likes of Ian Naudé and Lukas van Loggerenberg in choosing to work with the variety, there’s a good chance it’s going to be the Next Big Thing.

CE’s rating: 92/100.
