Roan Ranger 2019

By , 19 October 2021

What a little gem Roan Ranger is, year in and year out. It’s a red blend as compiled by Darling resident Charles Withington who sources grapes from the area according to a nègociant model.

Usually, Cinsault dominated, the 2018 deviated from this with Grenache in the ascendancy. The 2019 reverts to type, however, the blend consists of 85% Cinsault as well as 10% Grenache and 5% Mourvedre. On the nose, red and blackberries plus hints of fynbos, smoked meat and spice while the palate is medium-bodied with generous fruit, moderate acidity and not too grippy tannins. Unfussy and approachable, it sells for R95 a bottle at the Darling Wine Shop.

CE’s rating: 91/100.
