Survivor Cellar Master Series Pendulum 2019

By , 8 December 2022

The Cellar Master Series is a new top-end range from the Overhex-driven project that is Survivor Wines. The first wine to be released under this designation is a red blend called Pendulum – Pierre Wahl, previously of Rijks in Tulbagh, joined as winemaker earlier this year and sourced components from Joubert-Tradauw in the Tradouw Valley.

It will always be a blend of Cabernet Franc and Merlot, in this instance 85% of the former and 15% of the latter, maturation lasting 36 months in 300- and 550-litre barrels. The nose shows red berries, tomato cocktail, herbs, earth, pencil shavings and a little oak spice while the palate is medium bodied with fresh acidity and fine tannins, the finish nicely dry. Unshowy yet intricate, this makes for satisfying drinking. Price: R450 a bottle.

CE’s rating: 92/100.
