Buddy system at work.

Multiple cultural references to the name Amistad. On one level, the Spanish for “friendship” and The Amistad Wine Company was begun by winemakers Ossie Sauermann (previously of La Vigne) and Jacques Wentzel  (ex Welbedacht). It’s also the name of a ship which in 1839 saw an uprising by African slaves while traveling between Cuba and the United States, the incident the subject of a film by acclaimed director Steven Spielberg in 1997.

The Sauvignon Blanc 2012 is Wine of Origin Franschhoek and shows lime flavour and zingy acidity.  Not particularly complex but honest, refreshing and not bad value at R69 a bottle from Manuka Fine Wines in Somerset West. Score: 15/20.
