Old school.

Warwick in Stellenbosch has released its Cabernet Franc as well as its Bordeaux-style red blend Trilogy from the acclaimed 2009 vintage. Scores and tasting notes below:

Warwick Cabernet Franc 2009: 15/20
Price: R250
24 months in French oak, 45% new. Prominent oak (coffee, toffee notes) as well as slight herbal note on the nose. Also some reduction. The palate shows dark fruit, fresh acidity and fine tannins but is rather lean overall.

Warwick Trilogy 2009: 16.5/20
Price: R250
60% Cab Sauvignon, 29% Cab Franc, 11% Merlot. 27 months in French oak, 60% new. Subtle red and black berries and slight herbal note on the nose. The palate is medium bodied with optimally ripe fruit, fresh acidity and fine tannins. Not particularly arresting but understated and refined.
