Diemersdal Sauvignon Blanc 2013

By , 15 May 2013

Woo hoo.

Woo hoo.

Judging for this year’s Concours Mondial du Sauvignon took place at the end of April so surprising, to say the least, that any wine from vintage 2013 should feature.  This is, after all, a variety that is supposedly more prone to bottle shock than most.

Durbanville property Diemersdal, however, won gold for its standard-label 2013 (price: R52/bottle) and it’s pretty fantastic. A hint of guava as you might expect on a Sauvignon so young but also peach which smacks of grapes properly ripe plus white pepper. Great concentration, bright acidity and about the best you can do with entry-level Sauvignon. Hats off.

Score: 88/100.
