Fornication like this, we need Champagne.

Cape Town wine brokerage and cellaring firm Wine Cellar recently took over the agency for Champagne Drappier and today hosted a tasting the portfolio. President and winemaker of this family-owned house Michel Drappier led proceedings, revealing the key tenets behind the wines: an increasing shift towards organic viticulture, Pinot Noir to the fore, low sulphur and low dosage.

Wine of the day was the prestige cuvée Grande Sendrée 2005 (R690 a bottle). A blend of 45% Chardonnay and 55% Pinot Noir, it showed peach and red berries plus a hint of earthiness. Great fruit expressions, well integrated acidity, a fine mousse. Real depth and complexity. Score: 17.5/20.
