Groote Post Shiraz 2008

The Green Meanie.

Darling property Groote Poste enjoys a cool-climate location not far from the Atlantic Ocean and hence tends to make such excellent Sauvignon Blanc but does this also explain why the Shiraz 2008 was so ordinary?

The wine showed stalky, green flavours in addition to sour plum and had a somewhat briny after-taste. According to technical analysis, the wine has an abv of 14.5%, residual sugar of 1.5g/l, TA of 6.3g/l and pH of 3.75, which does not suggest that the grapes were picked too early but rather that a high degree of sugar ripeness was achieved without a commensurate level of phenolic ripeness.
