A stonker.

A stonker.

“It’s almost obnoxiously rich,” said Tinus van Niekerk, wine consultant and originator of TOPS at SPAR’s Olive Brook range, of the Boekenhoutskloof Semillon 2010 drunk over dinner last night at Terroir in Stellenbosch and he didn’t mean it in a bad way.

It bears repeating that the Boekenhoutskloof Sem comes from Franschhoek vines planted in 1902 and 1942 and the fruit concentration that this wine delivers is staggering but despite all that, it retains remarkable detail – thatch and peach but also tantalising savoury notes that keep you coming back to the glass for more.

Score: 93/100.
