Benchmarking exercise.

Benchmarking exercise.

As a primer for judging of the Standard Bank Chenin Blanc Top 10 Challenge in July (see here), some Chenin Blanc from leading Vouvray producer Domaine Huet.

The Demi-Sec Le Haut-Lieu was lush and complex, the Sec Le Mont pure and elegant. Both very good but I wasn’t left thinking that South Africa is incapable of matching such wines for quality. That is, of course, until the matter of ageability is considered. Most local examples would be looking very tired indeed after equivalent time in bottle…

Have you tried the Rijks Chenin Blanc’s especially the private cellar and reserve. I think this wines can age quite well and are released with age already!
